In their June meeting, the GPA Board of Directors adopted a new mission statement :
We are the primary advocates for a sustainable Midstream Industry focused on enhancing the viability of natural gas and natural gas liquids. We provide local, regional and global forums to develop standards, conduct industry research, educate our workforce and improve operational safety. As advocates, we work with legislators and regulators to promote a safe and viable Midstream Industry.
The new mission was developed by a task force working on revising the mission, by-laws and dues structure.
This intensive one-week school sponsored by GPA will be held Aug. 10-14 at the University of Tulsa (Okla.) campus and is one of the best available worldwide (which explains why it has sold out four of the past six years!). It is directed toward chromatograph operators, measurement technicians and engineers involved in chromatography. This school is also beneficial to lab technicians, even though they may not be GPA or GPSA members. If your company does business with commercial laboratories, recommend that they send their employees to this outstanding school. This is an excellent way to ensure that the commercial labs with whom your company does business are truly familiar with standard GPA methods and analytical procedures.
The school is effective because it consists of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on operation AND is taught by people who work in our industry.
With the need to train and retain employees, the school's attendance has grown. Attendees come from around the globe with these countries represented in past schools: Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, United States and the West Indies. We invite you to look over the GPA School of Gas Chromatography registration form.
GPA's new Environmental Excellence Award is a project-based award created to honor companies' achievements in energy conservation and environmental support. Winners will be recognized each year at the GPA Convention, where they will be able to demonstrate their projects so that other member companies may benefit. Award categories are identical to the safety award structure based on workhours, and the self-nomination process is now open for companies to be considered for the 2010 award recognition. Complete details, along with the application form, are available at http://gpaglobal.org/award_env_excellence.php. The application deadline is Sept. 1.
